San Angelo residents having fun in downtown San Angelo

Home Sweet San Angelo NightLife

Over the last few weeks, we have touched on many of the things that make San Angelo such a unique and rewarding place to live. We gave a glance into the deep historical roots that made their mark on our town and embedded themselves into our present day.  We also dug into our rich art culture and shared the many outlets offered to showcase the beauty built into our city’s core. Lastly, with summer here and many families joining our community, we jumped into the many local forms of recreation we proudly boast.  With this post, we will highlight another element people often look for when they move to a new city – NightLife.

San Angelo has so much to offer for families, but we don’t want to forget about those of us that like to get out when the sun goes down.  We don’t want to sound “cliché”, but millennials do make up a large part of any city’s population and going out is something that people, of all ages, enjoy.  San Angelo is no different and although we might be smaller than some of our neighboring cities, we are big in our ability to provide something for everyone.

A quick search and click on Downtown San Angelo’s website will give you a great starting point for where you might go to have a truly amazing San Angelo night out. If a nice glass of wine while you relax and listen to live music is something you enjoy, we suggest you start out somewhere along the lines of The Black Swan Wine Bar or Blaine’s Pub.  However, if a night of rock and roll is your thing, then definitely head on over to the one and only Deadhorse Lounge.  And if you’re ready for a night of retro fun and just an all-around great time like you’ve never had, you’ve GOT to head over to The House of Fifi DuBois.  We also have a good handful of traditional bar/pub establishments as well, Warehouse 150, SoCo Tap House and Fat Boss Pub are just a few.  This recent post that was done by San Angelo Live actually provides a list of San Angelo Nightlife Events going on here over the summer.

Like any other nice sized town, we do have a varied selection of sports bars.  We’ve not only got the well-known establishments like Buffalo Wild Wings, Twin Peaks, Hooters and Shenanigans, we also sport our own popular spots that are more along the lines of the “hometown” feel.  The Titled Mug is a hot spot for those looking for a few laughs and to listen to a few good tunes, or even sing a few!  Fiddlestrings Bar and Patio is another hot spot with pool, washers, corn hole, water volleyball & shuffleboard on site!  Then, we, of course, have bars and grills if you want to eat while you play! Outside of your traditional chain restaurants like Chilis and Outback, we have our very own Concho Pearl, Zero One Alehouse and Twisted Root.

We also understand that the live music scenes are not for everyone, which is totally fine when you live in a town that has plenty to do by just getting outside.  San Angelo also has a monthly event called the DSA & Cultural Arts District Downtown Stroll hosted every 3rd Thursday of each month. Open to the public, art, food, and fun line the streets of downtown San Angelo accompanied by the free trolley to take you wherever you’d like to go. No matter where you go, there is always something in San Angelo nightlife for people to enjoy.

You can also take a stroll down the Concho River after dark and experience it outside of the bustling of the day. Lighted walking trails, tons of fishing spots and life-sized games will surely entertain you and equal a great night.  Head over to the LoneWolf Bridge or any number of our parks and enjoy the coolness that comes with the sun setting. Stress comes with relocation and without a break from the process, burn out will set in. Take a minute for yourself and enjoy your new surroundings.  With work and the heat of these long summer days, a break from the norm and getting out at night is something well deserved. You have plenty to pick from, treat yourself!

Home Sweet San Angelo – San Angelo Recreation

School is officially out, and travel is underway.  If you’ve been following our blog series on “Home Sweet San Angelo”, you’ve learned a few tiny tidbits about our community and what it has to offer.  We primarily want to ensure that anyone coming to the area feels a little more comfortable in their transition through this series of information. But we also hope that those who already call San Angelo home can possibly explore our town more through the information we provide.  On this week’s post, we will highlight the most memorable San Angelo recreation activities that your family can explore this summer.

The primary source of attraction during the summer months is none other than Lake Nasworthy.  Not only is it a great source to cool down and have fun with the family, but it also provides a plentiful supply of fish.  As stated on the Texas Parks and Wildlife webpage, you will predominately find largemouth bass, white crappie, white bass and, of course, our channel and flathead catfish.  For many of us, fishing with family is a past time sketched into our memory books and with the many sources of water we have throughout the city, many memories are to be made here.  One thing you might not know if you aren’t from here is that Lake Nasworthy also has the perfect beach setting, found at Mary E. Lee Park.  With the fun beach atmosphere that offers barbeque pits and tons of space to set up tents and build sandcastle cities, you are in for many days of family entertainment on this shore.

If you are in the area of the beach you might also take a visit into the San Angelo Nature Center, located right next door.  With exhibits of animals ranging from local to exotic, your family will be in for a treat with guided tours and fun events, all throughout the year.  You can also enjoy a day full of water fun by visiting the Twin Buttes Reservoir that offers tons of trails for off-roading while you play.  If you decide to venture downtown, you can enjoy another water attraction, The Riverwalk.  On the Riverwalk, you will find Kid’s Kingdom (playground galore), The Bosque (fun for big and little kids alike), a skatepark, walking trail, the Riverstage and, once again, fishing!  If getting in the water is more up your alley on a hot day, then head right down the road to Love Municipal Pool.  Or, even make the short trip out to Brown’s Pool and enjoy the water and yarded activity area on site.

By visiting the San Angelo Parks and Recreation page, you can find a list of links to many area attractions and parks.  No summer is complete without the roller rink and ours comes with a putt-putt course, laser tag, and arcade!  With the San Angelo State Park, San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (with TONS of summer programs) and SO much more, we know that you will find your place somewhere amongst our town’s bustling streets.  The saying goes “There’s No Place Like Home” but we also understand that when you are starting in a foreign place, your heart doesn’t feel at home.  We hope that through our continued series your heart will become more adapted to this new town and her people. And eventually, you will fall in love with the best of San Angelo’s recreation and engage the new sense of “Home is Where the Heart Is”.  Be looking for our next post which will highlight local nightlife for the millennials coming our way!
